Requirements
First you should check if your camera is able to record HLG footage. Sony
and Panasonic use HLG.
Check if your video software is able to work on LUTs. LUTs were
established on LOG footage so they exist before HLG was introduced.
You should also check, if your video program supports HLG.
I work with Sony Alpha 7 mk3.

Convert your HDR HLG movie back to SDR standard
There are multiple szenarios converting HLG footage back to SDR standard. The most important is to have good
looking footage on SDR television too. HDR is a new feature and many television are not able to switch in a real
HDR mode. The most important feature of HLG is the backward capability but the picture doesn‘t look as good as
default SDR footage.
Free LUT
Being a newbie I was searching desperately for a free LUT to convert my HLG footage back to SDR Bt.709
standard. Only professional video tools support HLG export and in addition only a few people have a Bt.2020
television.
This should not happen to you. I offer you a free LUT. Just download it and test it. The LUT is for personal use
only and distribution is not allowed.
You can use the free LUT to test your Video Editor prior purchasing the pack below if it is able to work with
LUTs and Bt.2020.

LUT Pack
After creation of the first LUT I realized that each shoot has its own characteristic. It is best practice to
transfer Bt.2020 footage to Bt.709 the dependend on the original gamma. The free LUT is designed for a
special shadow, midtone and highlight szenario that doesn‘t match all shots. I developed 8 LUTs handling
gamma curve in a different way. In addition I created 8 correcting LUTs handling mistakes on exposure. They
are correcting LUTs. They are all part of the LUT pack.
